Beyond “working out” — Yoga can be a vehicle for healing, self care, and self development. It ALL depends ON how WE practice…
WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY?
YOGA THERAPY IS AN APPROACH TO HEALTH AND HEALING WHICH PUTS YOU (THE PRACTITIONER) BACK IN CONTROL.
My role as a Yoga Therapist is primarily to help you better understanding your body and mind, how they work and how to take better care of them.
So many of our health problems are user errors — we don’t know how to BE in our bodymind in a healthful way. Yoga Therapy is a process of self discovery, learning what our issues are, where they come from and how WE can change to relieve them.
Yoga Therapy incorporates many different practices and techniques, specifically chosen and employed to help you heal in the ways you need. Together we’ll identify areas in your bodymind, feeling and thinking which are blocking you from experiencing greater wellbeing and create a program to help you heal.
What can yoga therapy do for you?
-
Improved Posture & Functional Mobility.
The structure of our body has to support the function of our body — when our anatomy (structure) is misaligned, our physiology (function) suffers and health is degraded. Improving posture and mobility not only allows us to better live our lives externally, but it improves our internal organ health, circulation, energy flow and vitality.
-
Deepened breath & Increased energy.
The way we breathe is the way we live — most people are stuck taking short shallow breaths, which leads to a short, shallow life. The ability to take long, deep breathe is an essential part of our health, wellbeing and longevity. It is also a core principle of yoga therapy. Without proper breathing habits, no amount of diet or exercise can make us healthy.
-
Decreased Stress & Anxiety.
Stress is a common and chronic problem for the majority of people which slowly degrades our health. It robs our energy, inhibits healing / recovery and prevents us from enjoying life and living creatively. The meditative aspects of Yoga Therapy offer a means to effectively reduce stress naturally and immediately, without medication or negative side effects.
-
Reduced pain & physical restrictions.
Pain can be debilitating, it can prevent us from sitting peacefully, moving ease-fully or even focusing on what’s in front of us. Reducing and releasing painful restrictions in the body reopens our capacity to live freely and fully — and is something that everyone can learn to do for themselves.
-
Sharpened focus & mental clarity.
The benefits of mindfulness go beyond simply sitting in meditation — just like we can learn how to move better, we can learn how to focus better, think better and direct our mind. In a world that is FULL of distractions and toxic information, the ability to clear one’s mind, to focus and think intentionally is necessary for mental health and performance.
-
Enhanced & expanded sense of self.
This is the crown jewel of Yoga. Every new discovery deepens our awareness, of sense of self, who we are, how we function, what we want to experience and how to best realize that goal. It’s the expansion of awareness that gives us more freedom to live, act and create the life that we want.
